CMA CGM invests USD 115 million to expand its container terminal at Khalifa Port (UAE), increasing capacity to 2.7 million TEUs per year and strengthening Middle East shipping.
Global shipping giant CMA CGM has officially announced the expansion of its container terminal at Khalifa Port, UAE, through a strategic partnership with AD Ports Group. The project comes amid rising container traffic and strong logistics demand across the Middle East.
✅ USD 115 Million Investment
The total investment for the expansion is approximately USD 115 million, with CMA CGM holding a 70% stake and AD Ports Group owning 30%, in line with the current terminal ownership structure.
✅ Capacity to Reach 2.7 Million TEUs per Year
Upon completion in early 2028, the terminal’s capacity will increase from 1.8 million TEUs to 2.7 million TEUs annually, representing a 50% growth. This will lift Khalifa Port’s total container throughput to around 10.5 million TEUs per year.
✅ Major Infrastructure Upgrades
The expansion includes:
- Quay wall extension from 800 meters to 1,200 meters
- Container yard expansion from 464,000 sqm to 667,000 sqm
- Additional refrigerated container (reefer) facilities
- Upgraded automation and terminal operations systems
✅ Strengthening Global Supply Chain Connectivity
Since commencing operations in December 2024, CMA Terminals Khalifa Port has recorded strong container volumes, serving as a critical gateway connecting:
- Middle East – Asia
- Middle East – Europe
- Middle East – Africa
The expansion will significantly enhance container handling efficiency, shipping capacity, and regional logistics competitiveness within the global supply chain.
